How to play
New to Volt Racers, or just want to understand something better? This page covers everything — from what the number on your car means to how to unlock the Cubic Championship.
Volt Racers is an electric car racing game where you pick battery equations to charge your car and race ahead of your opponents.
Every battery shows a full algebraic equation — like 3x + 1 = 13. Your car shows a number — the value of x. Your job is to find the battery that is true for your x, tap it, and charge your car.
Get it right and you surge forward. Get it wrong and you stall briefly while the other cars move ahead.
That is the whole game. Race, pick batteries, win.
The number on your car is the value of x for that race.
When a battery shows 3x + 1 = 13, you need to check: does this hold true if x = 4?
Your x value is different to every opponent's x value. The battery that is right for you is wrong for them. That is why you cannot just copy what the other cars do.
Your x value stays the same for the whole race. It changes when you win and start a new race.

Batteries stream past your car during the race. Each one shows a full equation — something like 3x + 1 = 13.
Your job:
Tap the right battery and your car charges forward. Tap the wrong one and you stall. A brief spark effect shows which battery was correct.
Remember
You are not solving for x. You already know x. You are just checking which battery is true for your x.
The charge bar runs alongside your car on the track. It shows how much charge you have.
More charge means faster speed. Pick a correct battery and the bar fills up. Pick a wrong battery and it drops a little.
The background of the track also reflects your speed — when you are charging well, the road flies past quickly. When you stall after a wrong answer, everything slows down.
You can always see your charge bar. There are no hidden stats.
The minimap is the small strip at the bottom of the race screen.
It shows where every car is on the track — including yours. Each car is a coloured dot. The finish line is at the right.
Use it to see at a glance whether you are ahead, behind, or about to be overtaken.
When an opponent gets close to you on the minimap, their car fades in on the main track view beside yours.
There are six NPC drivers. Each one has a different style.
Spark
Good to beat early on. Builds your confidence.
Volt
Steady and reliable. A fair all-round opponent.
Blitz
Very fast but makes lots of mistakes. Often leads early, then fades. Do not panic if Blitz zooms ahead.
Amp
Slow but almost never wrong. Methodical and hard to shake off on longer races.
Surge
Unpredictable. Different every race. You never quite know what you are going to get.
Apex
Fast and accurate. The hardest opponent. Only appears in the Cubic Championship.
Each NPC has a different x value to you. They are solving their own batteries — not yours.
Your car stalls briefly and your charge drops a little. A spark effect shows which battery was actually correct.
After the race, the post-race screen shows you exactly what went wrong — step by step. You can see what your x value gave when put into that equation, and why the battery you tapped was wrong.
You can also tap "Show working" to see the full breakdown.
Tip
This is the most useful moment in the game. Take a look before you start the next race.

If you lose the same race five times in a row, the game offers you a fresh start.
This gives you a new x value and a new set of batteries. It is not the same as giving up — it is just a fresh attempt.
Your race record shows these separately from your wins and losses.
You can say no and keep trying with the same race if you prefer. The offer will come back after each further loss until you win or accept it.
The game adjusts quietly in the background.
If you are winning lots of races, the batteries get a little harder. If you are struggling, they ease back.
You will not see a message saying the difficulty changed. You will just notice the batteries feel different.
This happens automatically. You do not need to do anything.
Voltage Points — VP — are the in-game currency.
You earn VP by racing:
You spend VP in the Garage to unlock new chassis and cosmetics.
VP cannot be bought with real money. You can only earn it by playing.
A hot streak is three correct battery picks in a row without a mistake.
When you hit a hot streak, you get a VP multiplier — you earn more for every correct pick until you make a mistake.
The streak bar at the bottom of the race screen shows your progress toward the next streak.
Chassis are the body shapes of your car. There are eight to unlock.
You start with the Bolt — the default chassis — for free. The other seven are bought with VP in the Garage.
Each chassis is a different shape and silhouette. They look different on the track. They race identically. No chassis is faster or slower than any other.
Decals are designs you put on your car. There are four types: livery patterns, illustrated graphics, racing stripes, and side graphics.
You can have one of each type active at a time. Buy them with VP in the Garage.
Each decal picks up one of your car's colours automatically. So if your rear wing is green, your illustrated graphic will be green too.
Skill Mode is a time trial — just you and the track. No opponents. Race against your own best time.
It unlocks once you have shown consistent accuracy across multiple races. It is a reward for players who have got the hang of substitution and want a new challenge.
